CHRISTI MURPHY
Theater Faculty
Christi Murphy is a deeply experienced acting teacher, coach, and director with more than 20 years of experience working in theater education and theater performance training in private programs and public schools throughout DFW. She lead the Theater Education Department at Lyric Stage, was the lead acting instructor and curriculum writer at Casa Mañana, and founded the theater program at Texas School of the Arts. She was also the Co-Founder, Assistant Director, and Acting Coach of Camp Casa, working with numerous regional tours and theater companies from across the country at Bass Hall. Christi boasts extensive youth directing, curriculum development, and Theater program development experience. She has taught and designed curriculum for multiple levels and facets of theater education including creative drama, musical theater, mid-level scene study, improvisation, Shakespeare, comedy, voice, and diction. She has also served as the Head Judge for the National High School Musical Theater Awards/Schmidt and Jones Awards, and was on the staff of the Betty Lynn Buckley Awards.
An accomplished theater director, Christi has directed shows in schools, camps, and private educational theater settings. Some of Christi’s favorite directing credits include Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Beauty and the Beast, Nate the Great, Follow that Rabbit, Cinderella’s Glass Slipper, The Boxcar Children, Aladdin, Fame, Oklahoma, Bye Bye Birdie, Annie, The Music Man, Seussical the Musical, and Go Dog Go.
As an actress, Christi has performed in productions at local theaters across DFW including Casa Mañana, Hip Pocket Theatre, Sage and Silo Theatre, Mainstreet Theatre, Onstage in Bedford, and Magnolia Lounge at Fair Park.
Christi holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Theater Arts Performance from the University of Texas at Arlington, and has earned the distinction of “highly qualified” as a State of Texas Theater Educator for children ranging in age from Early Childhood through 12th grade.
