JOHN KUETHER

John Kuether is an highly experienced performer, educator, and resident director best known for his long association with The Phantom of the Opera. He spent ten years with the Broadway production and performed in about fifty cities on the national tour. John also spent two years in Hamburg, Germany as a member of the Hamburg cast of the show. While in Hamburg, John was a faculty member of the prestigious Joop van der Ende Academy, one of the top music theater training programs in Europe. He has sung with the opera companies of Santa Fe, Houston, Seattle, Philadelphia and Vienna. His favorite roles include Mozart’s Figaro and Leporello, Don Magnifico in Rossini’s La Cenerentola, and the four villains in Offenbach’s Tales of Hoffmann. He has performed Cervantes/Don Quixote in The Man of La Mancha with the Skylight Opera Theatre in Milwaukee, and played the title role in staged versions of the Schumann/Lord Byron Manfred with both the Seattle Symphony and the American Symphony Orchestra in Avery Fischer Hall at Lincoln Center in New York. John can be heard on recordings on Leonard Bernstein’s A Quiet Place and Philip Glass’ La Belle et la Bête. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Wisconsin-Milwauke, and a Master’s degree from the Curtis Institute of Music.
